Max pried open the elevator doors. The rooms in front of him were dark, quiet, still. These were the floors of the politians. These were the floors where the real organisation went on. Where laws were passed. Where men and women plotted, where men and women dictated right and wrong.
And one floor up, was the computer systems that this entire fuckin' place would die without. That credits would be null and void, where records of births, marriages, divorces, illnesses, crime would be wiped out and never retrieved.
As much as he wanted to, simply blowing up that computer wouldn't be enough. There was still people who remembered. People who could pick up the peices. So now it was time for Max to find out where these people were. Where they lived. What their names were. What they looked like. What they liked for breakfast.
Stepping through the doors, three large dobermans bounded over and growled at him. Max's dark eyes fixed on them and slowly, he crouched down as the elevator doors slipped shut behind him.
"Hey there fella's..." He said softly, reaching out one hand for the lead dog to sniff. It did. It's tail began to wag. Maxwell grinned. Damn, how stupid was this place?
Reaching into his pocket Max produced three biscuits, which he tossed to each of the dogs before patting them on the head. "That's my boys." Shifting a little forward, he held his hand out palm down and gently lowered it. The dogs sat. Maxwell pointed to his eyes with two fingers, before the same hand reached out and pointed at the elevator doors.
The alpha dog growled. The rest echoed it. Max moved off across the dark floor.
I mean, really, who would continue to use gaurd dogs that the major terrorist leader had trained?
He snickered to himself a little more as he heard the elevator doors open and the growling increasing. One man screamed. Presumably because Colin had just bit him.
Maxwell carried on up the internal stairs towards the computer system room. It's humming and ticking were the only sound apart from the sounds of officers trying to get the big dogs to obey. It wasn't working, and it was just fine by Max.
Pulling out a small decoder from his pocket Max flicked the switch and watched it power up, eyes flicking and glancing the way he'd came. This was the very centre of the building. Fromt his computer everything operated. And all that stood between him was bullet proof glass, and a lock that required an 8 digit entry code that comprised of any number of combination of 10 numbers, and 14 letters.
Which changed daily.
His decoder was powered up. Gently he prised open an edge of the keypad and slotted the communicator in. The decoder began to get to work, reading impulses and trying them out. It worked quicker than Maxwell ever could, but it was still taking forever. At least, what seemed like forever.
His orgional plan had been to bring Kaida and Nate with him to help serve as distraction for him. They were more than capable of running around the building creating havoc while he snuck up here. He'd also planned to get the drones to blow up the bridge over the river. Lots of lovely, lovely distractions. But now, now he was counting the seconds and Max hated feeling rushed on a job. He didn't want anyone to see him do this, else they'd...
Well. They'd be all over the computer like white on rice.
His decoder beeped. Fantastic. He heard a yelp as one of the bastards shot one of his dogs! Bastards! Fucktards! Max swore, snatched his decoder and pulled out another gas grenade from his pocket. Wrenching out the pin he tossed it down the corridor where it burst into a painful cloud which caused a couple of indivduals who got rather large lungfuls to keel over.
They hadn't got into the corridor to see where he went. Brilliant.
Slipping into the computer room he pulled the door shut with a click behind him, and stayed low.
These computers weren't like your average PC. They were massivly powerful super computers, roughtly six foot in height and four wide. There was 15 of them, and in them they held all the information that was possible. Records of everyone. Records of everything. They blinked, they communicated they dealt with the addition and subtraction of credits.
Maxwell counted the machines. Machine thirteen. Hunting for a communication port he found it, pulled out the memory stick with the program that he'd been working on since he'd had this idea and began to pull off the covering.
He had to plant it deep within the computer itself. It was impossible to upload new information to the super computers without adding an additional one. Which of course they were planning on doing later this year, but later this year was too late.
Maxwell concentrated on the task at hand. He still listened for the approch of gaurds, but hidden between two of the massive towers he wasn't spotted. Fingers found the circuit boards he was looking for and within a few seconds Maxwell had Mcguyvered a communication interface between them, uploaded the program on the memory stick, and replaced the outside panelling.
There. Done. The uplink was complete.
Everytime the system updated itself, that is communicated with every single computer in the building, every single computer on the internet, every single computer in the city that wasn't a completely isolated machine... It would send a slightly larger packet of information to a certain computer, at a certain address.
And it wouldn't be even fuckin' noticable.
Genius. Now that was done, Maxwell headed out the computer system, messed up a desk, stole a couple of rather pointless files, and headed back to the elevator. Kerry and Harry had been restrained, but Colin lay on his side panting heavily and bleeding.
Two unconcious DPS gaurds lay with the dogs. The others must be runnin-- Maxwell heard shouting. Ah. Right. Ripping the sleeve from his shirt, Maxwell tied a sqift tourniquet around the doberman's wound, picked him up and balanced him in his arms. Pried open the elevator shaft and made his way out the building.
He caused a lot of trouble along the way, but I won't go into detail. Three more men died, as did two women.
Max was out at the 45 minute mark. Either Kaida and Nate were out too, or they were dead.
Either way, Max was pre-occupied with the dog.
