He watched them bicker, albeit silently. They really did have trouble getting along, but the problem was they liked each other because they had the same interests and goals at heart. When Kaida handed him back the binoculars he peered through them again, before dropping them back into his pocket.
Nate really was ingenious with the little things he made. Why Nate felt the need to make such things was beyond him, but other than that he was vaugly amused. For a few moments he wondered if they could catch the girl and get " The Drones." To hold her to ransom. It would be a good front to set aside the DPS and keep them very very busy while he carried out stage two. After all, if there was a big publicity stunt on the part of the Drones, it would keep them busy too and out his hair.
Only problem was, while Max was the "public face" of the DPS, Nate and Kaida, despite their efforts, were still on a file someplace, somewhere, with a photograph. It may be out of date and they may look slightly different now, but they were onfile. Their problem was they underestimated the enemy and put too much stock on their own ability to remain unknown. You couldn't, that was what had caused Max to start this whole bloody thing in the first place.
However, that was beside the point and he was contimplating the situation. Aw, fuck it. There was no point in doing anything on impulse. He needed a distraction, yes, but the drones were forever coming up with their own ideas (he didn't encourage that at all, nooooo ) and he generally sifted through them until he came up with one that was well thought out.
"Make her run first." Max said softly, one hand waving in the general direction. "If she's got a decent stride on her, she might make a half decent drone."

"Make her run.. Can't even blow off her legs?" A vague smirk curled glossed lips as he aimed the gun instead for a building near the girl in the distance. He really didn't care what he did or who he killed as long as he blew something up. As long as there was a boom and fire and-- The thought of it brought goosebumps. Nate was definitely a pyrophile. If such a thing exists.
Pulling the trigger alone brought a flash underneath that singed his hand and wrist, though he didn't appear to feel it. It took a lot of power to get the cone of metal and plastic to go so far, so he couldn't help the flash, but he at least managed to make it a silent mini-explosion. Dropping his hands and the gun that turned them black, he stared off after the cone.
He had just enough time to pull a cigarette from behind his ear, when there was a sound like thunder and a blast of fire the likes of which to make him proud. It enveloped half of a floor and sent the already close-to-collapse building tumbling down. He spun around to face Kaida then with a smug look. "Can your sword do -that-? Huh? Miss no-explodie-sword." He stretched out his arms and wriggled his hips a little in the victory 'I just made something go boom and what did you do' dance.
As karma would have it though, he then noticed his hands and winced. He carefully reached into his pocket to pull out a wet-nap to clean them. Only second and first-degree burns, he decided he should put thicker insulation from the heat on the handle. While he wiped at his wrist, he turned his gaze back out toward the sullen girl. She might not be so sullen anymore, he thought.

At the moment of the explosion, something in Mei had been triggered, and as instinct would have it, she bolted for safety. She most certainly didn't want to die right now! And not in this manner!
It is amazing, how physical and fast people become, in life and death situations. Mei was fast.
She was quite fast, always had the long legs for running, but she'd never been so quick as now. With a purpose to run, she was as fast as any person could go, with extreme pain and even death at stake. And somehow, she had to wonder in the midsts of her chaotic mind- had she really been watched?
It might just be paranoia. Might not though.
Shielding herself behind a farther building, and covering her head she waited out the last few moments of the catastrophe. At least, thats how her body felt it, shaking and aching from the sudden exertion, or maybe the blast itself. Did she really feel that pain, or was she imagining that too?
She dislodged the shard of something from her arm, and shook her head, still not quite believing that she was alive. That she'd survived. Yet, despite how amazingly alive she was, she still had the consequences of being blow back, of rolling and sliding and suddenly having to ignore all injury to run.
Mei hadn't hardly any idea of how hurt she really was, but she really didn't care, the only thing that crossed her mind now, was who to thank for this.
Who, was watching?
She wanted to know, and she wanted to know right that instant.

Always blow things up, ask questions later. That's Nate for you. Kaida turned and looked at Max with a light acknowledging nod. Making her run first. Now THIS was her sort of game. They run, she catches, she cuts. A perfect day. Maybe this girl would give her sport after all. If mister dynamite here didn't blow her up first. kaida caught one last real quick look at the girl, even though it was difficult without the binoculars. Pretty fast. A smile played her lips. Sport, it would be.
Kaida turned to the smart remark nate just threw at her. Cute as he may be, he made her want to slit that pretty little neck of his. "Yes. Hail to the almighty Nate. You can blow things up and scare off everything that comes near." She pulled a knife from her boot and held it firm. "i prefer the silent kills." A glint of pure joy flashed in her eye for a very short second and was gone. Some said she enjoyed both jobs way too much.
Funny how one can use knowledge to heal the wounded, and then be the one that causes most of the wounds. The life a teen in Stoneage eh?
Kaida stood and watched Max intently. She wouldn't move till he gave the Ok. For a brief moment, she gave Nate a sarcastic look, then turned away.

He watched her run, but there wasn't much of interest to her running. You could tell by the way she forced herself into it and headed straight for cover that she was running by pure instinct. A city girl, like he had first expected, that was disconent with her life.
Ungrateful little swine.
Max hated those kinds of people. Hated them with a near all consuming passion. "Oh, I'm so unhappy, I wish the government would fix it." They're the kind to complain about their government, and when voting time came around they "forgot." It pissed him off, and the little bitch deserved all that she'd get. He watched her for some time, the silence growing after the explosion, only the sound of crumbling building filling their ears. And it sure as did fill there ears. 10 miles out of town it wasn't going to attract any sort of immediate attention, which was just as well.
The last thing Max needed was the DPS crawling all over here. No, the girl couldn't be killed here. Nor could she be caught by either Kaida or Nate. He didn't want their faces known, he would not have their faces known. After the rubble had all clattered to the ground and it was just dust that filled the air, he finally reached his conclusion.
"Don't kill her. The last thing we want is a body here and DPS crawling all over this area. But scare her back into the city. And make sure she doesn't see your faces or hear your voices. You two are far too valuble. You can hurt her, if you like. Just make sure you've scared her away."

Mei breathed heavily.
OK, so she didn't have much of a more renewed respect for life, so much as a renewed respect for her body for not dieing on her. And she didn't really care so much to go anywhere just now, leaning here, letting the pain seep away into numbness, now that was nice. The numbness, the feeling of oblivion, a place of no thought or time, or even death. How nice. How very nice.
The truth was, as angry as Mei was at the government, as angry as she was for the mindlessly happy people like her parents, like her grandmother, she was most angry at herself. She had the chance, to do anything and yet, she had chosen the thing that came most easy, and yet, yet- she hadn't even succeeded much in that. She had the chance to, as her grandfather might've put it, taken the free money and run. But here she was, in a slump, too apathetic to try to do anything about it. She could've tried, to change things back, even if it was on her own. A group, meant little to her, it only meant well, more people who thought they understood how she thought, and yet, they didn't.
She could've taken action, drastic or no, to make things like they were again. To be happy with the world, even with all its goods and bads, because that was what made life worth living. Knowing, that there were good people, bad people, and those in between, and that they all contributed, to make you appreciate life. She hadn't done anything. She could have even gone to try and find, to help Stoneage. Well maybe that was a stretch, but it would've been something.
Anything, to get out of this rut.

"You ever notice she gets a little psycho glint in her eye whenever she's touching a sharp thing?" Nate was leaned in a bit, studying Kaida with that one good eye as if she were a bug under a microscope.
Scare the girl off.. He felt something like a sheep herder. Tilting his head slightly, he started looking around the area thoughtfully. Deciding which way he should start setting off explosions to get her going in the right direction. He had no idea how miss cutty would get the girl going anywhere without being seen since her weapon was rather close-range. But if she couldn't, he would just be able to rub it in her face more how much better explosives are.
"I'm all over it, sexy bossie." He sauntered to the edge of the roof where he grabbed ahold of the ladder to climb down. Problem with his projectile explosive gun was that it was only a prototype so he hadn't brought more cones for it. But the man is a walking time bomb, not metaphorically speaking in the least. Creeping around buildings and behind large objects scattered about, he started making his way to the spot he'd found on the roof to start the chase.
It wouldn't take long, despite how carefully he was moving it was fast, and he hopped onto the imaginary 'x' he'd drawn on the ground. One black gloved hand moved into his hair, ruffling it a bit as he pulled the ribbon out. It was a rather large ribbon, and the center of the bow had ten small round explosives. He tucked the ribbon into his pocket, cradling the explosives in his hand. He started tossing them with an odd sort of precision, so each one he threw would be further from himself than the last. And as he was facing the city and could make out Cinderella's side, he thought that might be pretty effective getting her running toward the city.
He ducked down behind another building, touching his earring before tapping his fingers against the ground one after another. Thumb, forefinger, middle finger, so on so on. Each time he touched a nine-foot explosion would go off, starting at the one a few yards from him, moving forward toward the girl. To put it simply Cinderella, imagine an explosion running at you quickly. The whole time he had a mild smile on his lips.

Maxwell watched Nathan run off. The boy always thought too high scale, he could learn something from Kaida. But then Kaida always thought small scale, daggers in the night and so on, so the two could learn from one another. Maxwell just wished they'd bloody well try it instead of trying to out do each other. It was frustrating. Max could handle any firearm, any explosive, any *form* of technoology. He could handle any attack strategy thrown at him, and any defence put up against him too. He could mind fuck people until they were down on their knees praying for mercy from themselves.
But he couldn't get his seconds in command to work together. There must be a way, he pondered silently, to get the two of them plotting to do things together and running around working in close proximity without stopping in the corridor half way through an assassination to bicker about damage control and how to excute the simple thing.
He sighed, heavily, allowing that dark gaze to move over to Kaida as he let out a sigh. Too high profile, too many explosion and the DPS will hear them and wonder what on earth was going on.
"Kaida, be a dear and go explain to Nathan about the benefits of covering one's face and masking's one voice to scare people up close where it isn't so loud and might attract unwanted attention?"

The noise, no matter how accustomed she was to it, still left a vibrant ringing in her ears. Spend enough time in this part of town, and one could go deaf. Oh wouldn't Nate enjoy that? Kaida had been watching Nate run off untill Max's voice broke into her thoughts. Scare the girl off HER way? Maybe there was a reason she rolled from her bed this morning after all.
The youth grinned malaciously at Max and stood to see where the run-away had run off to. Not too hard. Follow the explosions. Kaida followed Nate's path down the ladder and around the corner to the next building over. Seeing where the explosions were headed, the girl had to have been only a few feet ahead of them. Slipping silently through the shadows created by the over-hanging buildings, the medic was able to see where the trail of *fire* stopped, and where the girl she was after was.
Mask the face and voice? Easier then it sounded, really. Just don't let the girl see you, don't speak, and be quick on the feet. Of course there are more advance ways of doing it, but she was working on improvisions here. A couple more blocks, and she was out of here. Kaida climbed up a ladder to a building a good distance from the girl, and hid behind the roof access *shed*. Her knives are no use at this point. She'd have to get close, and that would risk this intruder seeing her. So, plan b.
The gun she had out earlier was pulled out again. This time, along with a silencer. Not much use if the gun shot is heard. Quickly, she screwed it on and aimed.
First shot.....missed. She pulled back and leaned against the door. Too far left. As always, she only hit the target when she wasn't aiming. So let's try this again, shall we?
Second shot, skinned the girl's right arm. Flesh wound, but Max said not to kill her. Again, she hid from view, wanting to get back to where he was. Though she'd have to wait. Ok, the rest was up to this girl's intelligence. She keeps running, she'd live. She is foolish enough to stay, then they'd have to find a clever place to hide a body.

First rapid and multiple explosions, now this!?! When was this fucking shit going to end? The only think Mei-Mei could say for it, was it made her feel quite alive. Though she'd rather not come so close to seeing death, without seeing who'd let death in. Still, despite her curiosity, her body forced her to run, pain and death weren't options, and somewhere in her subconscious, there was still some common sense left.
Still she glanced back, eyes scanning these ruins, like faces at a performance. Picking out the fans, from the friends of the fans, and the obsessed from the normal. You became quite good at that, if you wanted to avoid the weirdo's. You even learned, to pick the quickest route to the doors out from the flashing, thronging environment. Still, there wasn't much time for looking, she had to run, she had to live. Maybe, just maybe, she might come back, when she had a chance.
But if she did, and she would, she would be better prepared. Mei was getting to the bottom of this, one way or another.

It was drawing to an end, that much Max could tell. She wasn't far from the sort of no-man's land bridge between the ruins and the borders of the city, although a small part of the man wished Cinderella would get a fucking shift on. Pulling his binocoluars out of his pocket again, he lifted them and fixed them onto Nate. Kaida wasn't there.
For gods sake.
Maxwell scanned the ground and found her, just as she released the second shot and send the bullet grazing skin in a flash of red. So, once again they weren't working together. He'd specifically asked Kaida to go on down to Nate. Next time he'd just bash their heads together and go do it himself. Bloodly useless second in commands.
One of them were going to get caught, sooner or later. They both didn't use their brains enough, and they both had good brains. Maxwell resolved to have a talk with them later on back at the headquarters when they got back. Meantime he'd watch them to make sure they scared the girl back into the city--
And that she stayed there.

As he kept hidden, ducked down behind that large piece of rubble, he caught a glimpse of the flying bullet he knew only could have been compliments of Kaida. Oh so she finally got off of her ass and took the initiative, eh? Or maybe Maxie told her to go out and finish the job. He suspected the latter really, he didn't think Kaida shat unless Maxie told her to.
But he did realize after a little thought that blowing up the ruins is a little high-profile, he was still getting his hearing back. It really did just take a little brainpower and temporary hearing loss to realize that. Looking down, he started checking his person for quiet weapons. Bomb, nope. Bomb, nope. Big bomb..nope. Shit. He glanced over his little hiding place again. Meh, she was running. He didn't stand up straight again until he'd crawled somewhere with better cover, and dusted himself off there, turning his gaze toward the sky.
Silent weapons.. He was sure he could make one that'd turn Kaida on her ear. Prove still that he could make something better than those ancient devices she carried about her. Possibly a tazer.. As he ambled back over to Maxie's post, climbing the ladder, he started going over ideas. He'd need something that could taze someone from a distance. Maybe a smaller more concealable gun with special bullets receivable of a transmission from the gun to receive a shock as powerful as he specifies-- no.. Still a gun, still bullets, why not just shoot them with a regular gun. Grappling hook? He'd have to give it more thought.
As he reached the top, he started glancing around for Kaida, then turned his gaze to Maxie. "Okay I'm making something quieter next time. I don't know if you noticed but that was pretty loud. Kaida's got it though, I've got nothing quiet to help out with. I was thinking donuts on the way back, how about you?" Moving to the edge of the roof, he peered down at the little ant-sized running Cinderella.

That got it done. Though she couldn't shake this gnawing feeling in her gut. That something was wrong. Ah well, it'd present itself soon enough. Nothing she can do if she doesn't know what it is. Kaida peered around the corner of the roof access building to catch a last glimpse of the girl. She was running. In the direction of the city.
With a drawn-out sigh, the youth slid down the wall to the building to a seated position. The gun was shoved into her right leg pocket. Kaida slid her hands through her hair in a *I feel Shitty* manner. What the hell was wrong with her? Nate and herself and scared off the city-dweller. So why the worry?
Time to head back. Field work was not her only job. Of course, untill someone came in with a wound that required more then a little bit of antibiotics and a bandaid....her medic job was on stand-by. Kaida stood and let the small amount of sun shining through the clouds swarm over her. It helped in a ironic way. Maybe she'd avoid Nate on the way back. But if he'd gone straight back to Max, that'd be impossible. Meaning she'd have to avoid Max. Couldn't do that.
With head upcast and slightly tilted in the direction of the Stoneage leader, she headed down the fire escape and back to his perch. Walking swiftly, but with a aura of one condemned.

Max gave Nate a long, steady look, eyebrow raising. "You need to learn self-control Nathan." he said softly, quietly. "Which you could learn from Kaida. But she could learn to take a few more risks." He shook his head and as Kaida returned a logn glance to the girl.
She was the first one to join his quest. Shortly followed by Nate and then Fernn. The problem he found however, was that none of them trusted one another. And that was fine, he wasn't looking for trust between them. He knew all three vived for his affections. That all three wanted to be his favourite and sometimes there was nothing like sitting back and watching them bicker amongst themselves. But time was moving on. He needed them to co-operate and to work together.
Either that or he'd just shoot all three and be done with it. They were only resources after all.
He turned and moved off as Kaida arrived, jumping from the edge of the building to the rickety fire escape to move down it and away, slinking into the tunnels and abandoned sewer systems that lead to the hideout. He'd have words with them later.
